506 - History Hip Hop #1

Aired on: 12-11-2016
Guests: Yang Se-Hyung, Dok2, Gaeko, BewhY, Song Min-ho, Zico, DinDin, Seol Min-seok

Episode at a glance (minor spoilers):
The episode starts with the announcement of a new project, the combination of history and hip-hop. Jae-suk then visits Dok2 at his house. The rest of the rappers are then introduced together (without Dok2). They then had a history lesson with Mr Seol Min-seok, the purpose being to seek inspiration for their lyrics.

My Review:
Too many singing projects this year + hip-hop + korean history = no go for many of the international mudo community. For me, having enjoyed SMTM5, i am excited to see how this goes. The episode could be abit slow in the second half during the history lesson, but you can't find a more engaging history teacher than Mr Seol Min-seok. Dindin gets a special mention for creating a variety character so early in this arc.

Backstory, Reference, Inside Jokes:
1) Jung Jun-ha auditioned for SMTM5 earlier this year and BewhY is the winner of that season.

2) Zico is Infinite Challenge's official hip-hop teacher of sorts, having appeared on episode 472 to help Jun-ha with his hip-hop challenge. He then appeared during the LA Special to help arrange and record a hip-hop song.

3) Korea is currently in the midst of a political scandal, which is possibly why IC is doing this special. Like Mr Seol said, the solution lies in history.

4) I am sure Mr Seol Min-seok has appeared in the past too, will update with which episode once i can find it.

Infinite Challenge Episode Guide

Infinite Challenge is variety show that knows no boundaries. It can be funny, sad, silly, touching, educational and meaningful all at once.

As such, it is difficult to rate the episodes on the same weighing scale. For this blog, the Episode Rating is based on my biased opinion on the episode (i'm a human afterall!).

I have no preference for any genre of special that they do, but i want to feel connected with what they are trying to deliver and be entertained. That is most important.

Any other ratings that i may include from time to time are not meant to be additive. It is to put into context what the episode is about and hopefully let you know if the episode is of a certain nature (e.g educational, meaningful)

For now, i will update the latest episode once a week by Wednesday, and add older episodes when i have the time.
